Ms. María Teresa Belandria, Venezuelan Ambassador to Brazil, made a four-day visit to the border state of Roraima with her team in which she dedicated a day to tour the Pacaraima border together with the authorities of Operation Welcome. During the tour, Ms. Belandria was able to update herself on the adaptations that had to be implemented caused by the growth in recent months of the migratory flow from Venezuela.
A new camp to shelter 800 people was installed by the military, in response to the huge number of people who spent the night on the streets of the city awaiting their immigration regularization.
The Ambassador also spoke with many Venezuelans who were at the Triage Post (PTRIG) and addressed a few words to the crowd to explain about the procedures established by the military authorities and the Federal Police for the documentation of newcomers, and inform them about the work of the embassy in Brazil.
Since the flexibilization of the land border, more than 27 thousand Venezuelans have fled to Pacaraima. They have been received with respect, consideration and a humanitarian sense by ‘Operation Welcome’, which the ambassador again thanked for all its support.
Meetings with authorities and Attention in the CAV ‘Ricardo Delgado’
The embassy team took advantage of the days of their visit to hold meetings with different organizations and local authorities, such as the Superintendent of the Roraima Federal Police, the State Public Security Secretariat and with the new commander of Operation Welcome, General Sérgio Schwingel, who received this command last August. The embassy has been working closely with Operation Welcome since 2019, when Ambassador Belandria was appointed to represent Venezuela in Brazil.
In addition to these institutional meetings, the ambassador met in Boa Vista with the team of officials from the Venezuelan Attention Center ‘Ricardo Delgado’ (CAV) to draw up strategies for its second year of operation and carried out some procedures and face-to-face consultations. The CAV ‘Ricardo Delgado’, founded in October 2020, is the representation of the Venezuelan Embassy in Roraima and is responsible for attending in person the numerous demands of Venezuelans in that Brazilian State.
