The Ambassador in Colombia, Tomás Guanipa, informed that he requested, by means of a verbal note addressed to the Foreign Affairs Minister of Colombia, Claudia Blum Capurro de Barberi, the initiation of an exhaustive criminal investigation to establish who perpetrated the vandalism against the Venezuelan consular headquarters in Bogotá.
This Tuesday, the Venezuelan Embassy in Colombia was attacked by several individuals who broke windows, destroyed documents and incinerated property of the diplomatic headquarters.
“We have a well-founded fear that those who usurp power in Venezuela, together with their partners who are members of irregular groups in Colombia, may try to attack other diplomatic facilities of Venezuela in Colombian territory in order to generate destabilization in both countries,” said Ambassador Guanipa.
The diplomat added that in view of the possibility of a new attack by the allies of Nicolás Maduro’s regime, he formally requested that security arrangements at the Venezuelan headquarters be increased.
Guanipa reminded that the Venezuelan dictatorship constitutes a danger for the whole region and that this type of violent actions could be part of the criminal behavior of the regime and its partners.
“It is striking that it is precisely sympathizers of the dictatorship, who got there even before the police authorities arrived at the site, and took photos and made videos, which were used by the regime to start a campaign to distract people from the problems that afflict Venezuelans.” he said
The ambassador recalled that on February 23th, 2019, the usurper regime of Nicolás Maduro broke diplomatic relations with Colombia and ordered the withdrawal of all diplomatic and consular personnel.
In addition, the personnel who worked there stole part of the archives, goods and respective access keys, leaving behind enormous debts in property rentals and the personnel of Colombian nationality who worked in the diplomatic mission.
“We remain alert to the threats of the regime to attack the buildings of the diplomatic and consular service owned by our sister country Colombia, which are within Venezuelan territory, which are in the sights of those who usurp power,” he ended.
