The ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vanessa Neumann, stressed that the capture of Alex Saab could serve to find much of the money that the dictatorship has stolen from the Venezuelan State.
“Alex Saab was Nicolas Maduro’s main liaison with the world of illicit financing that manages to keep him and his elite in power,” the ambassador revealed.
Neumann said that at the time of his capture he was “the one responsible for illicit financing with Iran, Russia, and other countries, the one who does the dirty business and launders Nicolas Maduro’s money.”
“Saab is a terrible character because he has been enriched by all these years of poverty and suffering of Venezuelans. He represents the illicit profits from the suffering by hunger, repression, death and enslavement of Venezuelans,” she said.
Furthermore she sent a message to the regime, “the capture of Alex Saab confirms that no one, however close he may be to Nicolas Maduro, is safe. The arm of the American law enforcement is very long.”
“It also is a destabilizing damage because Alex Saab knows where all the money was hidden, so his capture offers us a chance to recover many of the stolen goods from Venezuela. I’m sure that now he’s going to negotiate and tell more about Maduro’s elite and leadership, and that will help us a lot to hamstrung them financially so that this won’t help them to stay in power,” she ended.
