Ambassador Zavarce: “The Free World Unites in Calling for a Democratic Solution for Venezuela”

“The joint declaration announced this Friday by the Lima Group, and to which several countries have been adhering, is a step taken by the free world to achieve a democratic solution to address the humanitarian crisis, today worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, and to move towards a free presidential election. The world’s democracies are not willing to validate Maduro’s electoral farce. Democratic guarantees are required so that the Venezuelan people can express themselves freely,” said Venezuela’s ambassador to Panama, Fabiola Zavarce.

The diplomat highlighted some details of the declaration that was also signed by Panama’s representative, Foreign Minister Alejandro Ferrer: “The free world calls on all those who continue to support the regime to put aside their interests and allow for a transition with the objective of appointing a new CNE as mandated by the Constitution to organize free and democratic elections. It also urges the regime to stop its repression against democratic forces”.

With the joint declaration, the Lima Group takes the lead in the search for a definitive solution to the Venezuelan crisis. The region understands the real threat from Maduro’s regime, which in recent months has been strengthened by the visible alliance between Iran and Venezuela, as well as the deepening links between the dictatorship and narco-terrorist groups. Furthermore, Zavarce states that “we are no longer only talking about a dictatorship, we are facing a failed state, a country occupied by powers and organizations with values contrary to those of the Americas.”

It is necessary that more countries join the joint declaration that the region is promoting today. The free world must be on the same page with respect to the Venezuelan case. The regime intends to carry out an electoral farce next December 6th that will only deepen the suffering of Venezuelans and the destabilization of the hemisphere.

Ambassador Zavarce extended special thanks to Panama for always accompanying us in our struggle for the recovery of democracy, and on this occasion it could not be the exception.
