Ambassador María Faría: “We can ensure that the construction of better policies for women remains a priority on the world’s agenda”

This Friday, the ambassador in Brazil, Maria Teresa Belandria, together with the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves, delivered a set of basic baskets to 60 Venezuelan families living in São Sebastião, a municipality in the Brazilian DF (Federal District).

The delivery of the donations was possible thanks to the support of the Spanish Embassy, represented at the event by its Minister Counselor Alvaro Diaz, and the Brazilian Red Cross, institutions that also participated in the event that took place at the Church Assembly of God, Shekinah Mission, in the city of São Sebastião.

The Venezuelan Embassy has supported different communities of Venezuelans living in Brazil, not only in the DF, but also in other states such as São Paulo and Roraima. Thanks to the support of various organizations, many Venezuelans have received basic food baskets, clothing and furniture through the embassy’s team. Today’s event in São Sebastião is another embassy initiative to assist vulnerable Venezuelan migrant communities in Brazil.

All protocols on social distancing and preventive measures were implemented during the event.

After the event, the embassy team together with the Minister went to the Social Factory project facilities in the Botanical Garden. 15 Venezuelan women in a vulnerable situation are employed in this project to make anti-covid mouthpieces that are sold throughout Brazil, generating jobs and a monthly income for the beneficiaries.

The project is part of the Jardim Botânico Community Movement, an organization of the residents of the administrative region of the Botanical Garden of Brasilia that brings together 52 urbanizations and represents about 66 thousand people.
