Ambassador to the United States Carlos Vecchio explained that the solution Venezuela needs to overcome the humanitarian crisis it faces, is to have a government that understands the nation’s emergency and does its best to achieve free, fair and verifiable elections.
He also rejected the intensified persecution of several members of the Legitimate Government of President (E) Juan Guaidó by Nicolás Maduro’s regime and its attempt to hold fraudulent elections.
“The persecution against us, the public servants of the Interim Government of Venezuela, is no different from that suffered by journalists, doctors, educators and any Venezuelan who thinks differently. Maduro only promises more conflict and confrontation. That only leads to tragedy,” Vecchio said through his personal Twitter account on Friday.
The diplomat insisted that this onslaught of the dictatorship against him only “reaffirms his unrestricted commitment” to Venezuela to achieve freedom and democracy for the nation.
Likewise, he explained that the real arrest warrant extant is the one that the U.S. government has against Maduro and his front man Alex Saab. “Those arrest warrants are being paid attention to by international justice and will be strictly enforced,” he said.
Vecchio called on democratic society to continue fighting against the dictatorship and to generate more pressure to defeat the tyranny and win freedom for Venezuela.
“We are facing a historic crossroads that will define the destiny of our country,” he added.
