CITGO Petroleum Corporation (CITGO) announced the appointment of Steven Scarpino as the company’s new Director of Ethics and Norms Compliance. He is charged with overseeing all facets of CITGO’s existing ethics and compliance program. This role was previously part of the responsibilities of Jack Lynch, Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs for the company.
“At CITGO we are committed to the highest standards of ethics, integrity and regulatory compliance, as well as excellence in operational performance,” said Carlos Jordá, Executive President of the company. “Steven brings nearly two decades of leadership in business ethics and compliance, and we welcome him to this vitally important role at CITGO.”
Scarpino’s appointment is the latest step in a company-wide effort to strengthen corporate ethics and governance at CITGO.
The company also recently updated its Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and, at the end of 2020, published its first environmental, social and governance performance report ‘A Clear Direction Towards the Future’ (known as the ESG report for its acronym in English). In his new role, Mr. Scarpino will continue to promote regulatory and legal compliance, as well as a culture of communication, care, and monitoring safety throughout the company.
Scarpino comes to CITGO after working at BP where he served as Director of Ethics and Compliance for Global Programs, from 2009 to 2021. Prior to BP, he held positions at NCR Corporation, AT&T GIS and Greyhound Lines, Inc.
“The Board of Directors has placed solid corporate governance at the center of our strategic priorities,” said José Ramón Pocaterra, Chairman of the CITGO Board of Directors. “Mr. Scarpino will help ensure that the company follows best practices and maintains the highest ethical standards in our industry.”
Scarpino will report directly to the Executive President of CITGO, Carlos Jordá, and will have direct access to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
