The European Union added 11 individuals to the list of those sanctioned linked to the Nicolas Maduro dictatorship for their participation in acts and decisions that undermine democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela.
According to a statement, the actions that motivate these sanctions include initiating politically motivated prosecutions and creating obstacles to a political and democratic solution to the crisis in Venezuela, as well as serious violations of human rights and restrictions on fundamental freedoms, such as freedom of the press and expression.
This brings to 36 the number of people sanctioned by the European Union. These sanctions include a ban on travel to European territory and the freezing of assets.
“The EU will continue to work to promote a peaceful democratic solution in Venezuela, through inclusive and credible legislative elections,” the diplomatic body said.
