Adm. Craig Stephen Faller, head of the United States Southern Command, affirmed that Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship is a partner and accomplice of the illicit drug trafficking and human trafficking groups that operate in the region.
“The struggle of Colombia and the United States is a joint fight, it is working, it is making a difference and it is putting pressure on these atrocious organizations of murderers,” said the admiral.
However, he stressed that there are several reasons that have allowed these organizations to continue operating, mainly the complicity of Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship, which has allowed them to use Venezuelan territory as a refuge and base of operations, where they can develop their business.
Furthermore, he stressed that these groups commingle directly with the regime and are licensed to do whatever they want and whenever they want.
Likewise, he stressed that the businesses of these illicit groups go beyond drug trafficking, since they also are involved in human trafficking and even in destroying the environment with illegal mining. Therefore, he assured that all the countries of the hemisphere should act accordingly in a coordinated way to put maximum pressure on these organizations.
