US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged the international community to continue to put pressure on Nicolas Maduro’s regime until he leaves power.
“International pressure on Maduro must continue until Venezuelans recover their democracy,” the official Twitter account of the U.S. State Department reported on Sunday.
The U.S. government office recalled that the United Nations found more evidence of the constant violations of human rights by by Maduro’s regime.
The report points to 1,300 cases of politically motivated extrajudicial executions so far in 2020 alone.
The United States is one of the main allies of the legitimate government of President (E) Juan Guaidó. The Trump administration has carried out several pressure actions against the Venezuelan regime, among them a $15 million reward for the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
