The Vice-president of the Foreign Affairs Commission and Italian Senator, Laura Garavini, demanded that her country’s government take a stand against Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship in Venezuela after the crimes against humanity became evident.
“The political situation is getting even worse in Venezuela. More and more political opponents are denouncing arbitrary detentions and searches”, she assured.
Garavini said that Italy must break down the barriers and openly stand by the democratic forces as the European Union has done.
The also former president of the Defense Committee of the Italian Senate expressed her solidarity with Gabriel Gallo, a member of the Council for Judicial Defense after the political persecution by the dictatorship.
“He is the victim of a campaign of intimidation by Maduro’s regime,” Garavini said through her Twitter account.
The European policy stated that Italy continues to review the cases of its nationals who have been victims of human rights violations by the regime.
“We are closely following the evolution of the situation. Italy is at the side of the democratic forces in Venezuela,” she stated.
