The Commissioner of the OAS General Secretariat for the Venezuelan migrant and refugee crisis, David Smolansky, held a meeting this Monday with the Border Manager of the Colombian presidency, Lucas Gómez, where they discussed the complex situation that the displaced Venezuelan are suffering in the crossfire between groups of the FAN, FAES and Dissident FARC.
“So far there are 4,741 people displaced to Arauquita, among which there are: 1,200 children, 213 elderly people, 136 pregnant and lactating women,” Smolansky reported.
He also specified that “of the 4,741 displaced persons there are at least 2,797 Venezuelans and 540 Colombians, who belong to 1,427 family nuclei and have been identified.”
“A human landslide that will not stop while criminals continue to declare war on innocent Venezuelans,” the commissioner warned.
Likewise, he stressed that “in Arauquita temporary refugee camps are being installed for the displaced.”
In this regard, the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Palacios, indicated, “our purpose is to conclude the characterization process that will allow us to have a real census of how many of the citizens who are in the shelter are Venezuelan citizens and how many returning Colombians.”
To end Commissioner Smolansky, he added, “we have put our office at their disposal to continue monitoring the situation, documenting human rights violations and promoting policies that protect the displaced.”
