The armed conflict in Apure has forced more than 4,700 people to hastily leave their homes and cross the border into Colombia by the clear and present danger in which their lives are in because of the presence of the FAES extermination group.

Faced with this situation, the Colombian government declared this Sunday a state of public calamity in that region of the country to accelerate the care of migrants.

“Our purpose is to conclude the characterization process that will allow us to have a real census of how many of the citizens who are in the shelter are Venezuelan citizens and how many are returning Colombians,” said Interior Minister Daniel Palacios.

On the other hand, Colombian Defense Minister Diego Molano blamed Nicolás Maduro for the armed conflict after cooperating with a group of Dissident FARC who deviated from the peace agreement signed in November 2016.

Likewise, Molano announced that the Colombian Army will send 2,000 soldiers to join the surveillance operations that were deployed weeks ago in the border area.
