In the opinion of Representative Gaby Arellano, president of the National Assembly’s Subcommittee on Border Affairs (NA), the Points of Integral Social Attention (PASI) installed at the borders to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, “are concentration and slavery camps that violate the human dignity of Venezuelan returnees run by the mafias delegated by Nicolás Maduro.”
This statement was made by the parliamentarian during the third virtual session of the legislative body held on Friday, who also denounced that Freddy Bernal, on the border between Táchira State and Colombia, created a mafia business with the sale of “bracelets” for those who want to enter the country immediately, without obstacles.
“That bracelet has lent to the creation of mafias, they sell this bracelet to try to speed up the passage, the average time that a Venezuelan has to pass the border is between 4 to 20 days, but if you pay for the bracelet to the Venezuelan National Guard, you can pass in hours over the Simon Bolivar Bridge,” she said.
Additionally, she denounced that this is only one more of Freddy Bernal’s businesses, “that besides charging for the trail (passage) and extorting any person at the border. Now he uses the need of the returnees”.
She affirmed that with this new illegal mechanism of entry into the country, Freddy Bernal violates the human right enshrined in Article 13 of the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’.
The parliamentarian read the aforementioned article which stipulates: “Everyone has the right to freedom of movement within and outside the national territory, to enter and leave the country and to choose his place of residence”. In this sense, she was emphatic in saying that this right is not respected and is denied to Venezuelans.
Arellano made the presentation of a video that shows the border reality for the Venezuelans who are imprisoned in La Parada, Villa del Rosario.
