The Deputy of the National Assembly, Luis Barragán, called on all Venezuelans to defend the country’s universities against the attempts of Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship to destroy them.
“We must own and retain the Venezuelan universities as a social movement, fundamentally because it is the university of (social) mobilities, which the regime has overwhelmed and which intends to confiscate from the Venezuelan people,” Mr. Barragán said in a message released through Parliament’s social network accounts.
The legislator explained that there is a long tradition of democratic struggles in favor of freedom that has had the Venezuelan university as the main stage.
Furthermore, he recalled that very fierce dictatorships encountered the strong will of resistance of the universities in Venezuela during the 20th century, which is why Nicolás Maduro’s regime is afraid of higher education institutions.
“The proposal that this dictatorship has is to create a society of resigned illiterates and whistleblowers,” Deputy Barragán warned.
