The deputy for Zulia State, Juan Carlos Velazco, assured that the regime of Nicolás Maduro cares little or nothing about the health and right to life that the people of Zulia have guaranteed in the Constitution. “The doctors and other health professionals who are working hard in the fight against the coronavirus are doing so without such vital needs and services as water and electricity.”
Velazco, who is also a traumatologist and Director of the Zulia State College of Physicians, assures that this is the case when analyzing the dangerous situation that patients and health professionals are going through in the Zulia health care centers, where attention is given to those infected by this pandemic, due to the lack of biosecurity elements and medicines.
The parliamentarian, also vice-president of the Permanent Commission for Integral Social Development, described the regime as irresponsible for not being able to apply the Protocols and Programs for the care of COVID-19 patients and for guaranteeing the safety of health professionals with the minimum biosecurity equipment required by the World Health Organization. “This fact is not only detrimental to the health and life of the health personnel but also to the general population,” he denounced.
Dr. Velazco said that in the case of Zulia it has been widely denounced. “The National Parliament, the Medical Association and all the Professional Associations and Health Unions of Zulia, through their directives, have already lost count of the communiqués issued, demanding from Omar Prieto, who serves as Governor of Zulia, the provision of the hospital centers with medicines, supplies and biosecurity equipment in view of the alarming number of health professionals who have been infected with coronavirus. However, trade union demands are not being heard, and that is why we can observe the tragic and dramatic situation in our hospitals,” he explained.
Likewise, he denounced that it is very regrettable that during the time of the quarantine, the regional and national health authorities did not take advantage of this valuable and important time to prepare, adapt with all the necessary supplies, technical resources, medicines, set up adequate areas for the attention of this pathology, instruct all the personnel and establish all the necessary strategies for the application of the Protocols to face the COVID-19 in the state health centers in view of the new outbreak in the state.
“But the worst thing is that we know that the same World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) have proposed guidelines directly to the national and regional government and they do not apply them because they are irresponsible for not complying with the necessary requirements, since these hospital centers in Zulia before the pandemics were already in chaos and inoperative and now when the cases of infected patients rise exponentially, they get us in Zulia without the possibility of providing comprehensive care to patients,” stressed the parliamentarian.
The deputy said that the situation has been of such magnitude that only a few days after the number of infected patients in Zulia has risen, it has reached the point of taking infected patients and health personnel such as a resident doctor and some infected patients of the University Hospital of Maracaibo to be admitted or confined to motels in the city; which in Velazquez’s opinion clearly shows the little capacity to respond and the impossibility of being able to attend to these patients in these hospital centers.
He continued by stating that the regime is incompetent and incapable. “They only act with executive decisions of a minister who is completely unaware of his functions and the ones who pay the consequences are the patients who are going through hardships without receiving any type of medication, in inhospitable situations.
Finally, said Congressman Juan Carlos Velazco, that health in Zulia and throughout Venezuela is in intensive care. “His prognoses are reserved, the health crisis is irreversible in the hands of this regime; therefore, it is urgent that a political change take place immediately to allow the installation of a national emergency government, which would remove Zulia and all Venezuela from this dreadful situation that threatens the lives of Venezuelans and even the existence of the nation itself day by day”.
