The president of the Borders subcommission of the National Assembly, Deputy Karim Vera, alerted Venezuelans about the increase in positive cases of COVID-19, as well as the increase in deaths that have been reported in recent days. Only in Táchira State deaths 136 have been announced. A figure that is doubted because many more unofficially infected citizens are known.
Vera reported that because of what she categorized as an irresponsible call for flexibility (opening), “it is worrying and alarming how the number of positive cases of coronavirus has risen and so the collapse began to occur in health centers. No longer can they provide enough to care for patients who are admitted with symptoms related to the virus. It is necessary for the country to be informed of the truth, the real numbers of infected, in our state the reality that we are living in the streets and in hospitals does not coincide with what is being announced.”
She alerted the people of Tachira: “we must maintain and fully comply with biosafety measures, let us remember the sanitary conditions in which our health centers have been for a long time, we must create citizen awareness. The virus did not take vacations or holidays, the virus is still in the environment, claiming lives.”
Parliamentarian Karim Vera remarked: “the country has not come out of the humanitarian crisis, on the contrary, the pandemic aggravated the scenario. Therefore, it is necessary that a real control be installed at the border points, it is important that health personnel receive the basic supplies to be able to take care of the patients and in also the medicines to fight the virus. This is not a political issue, COVID-19 does not distinguish between ideology, sex, religion or skin color.”
