The president of the Permanent Commission of Energy and Petroleum of the National Assembly, deputy Elías Matta, indicated that in the last 6 years, Venezuela has had a fall of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 70%, which has caused the economy of the country to decrease to less than a third of its former size.
The parliamentarian said that not even Syria, a country that has been shaken and affected by the war, presents the statistics that Venezuela has today.
“The economy in Venezuela has no other definition than that of a catastrophe, after having received 632 billion dollars in oil revenues. They not only squandered the revenues of the oil boom, but they also indebted us all, that is the result of 21st century socialism. 5446 dollars are owed for each Venezuelan”, Matta said.
Similarly, Matta held the dictatorship responsible for the economic crisis that affects all Venezuelans and the failed recovery plans they have tried to apply to the country.
“Those who run the country today show total ignorance of the crisis. In a serious country, one of the most important government figures is the Minister of Finance and here we are not sure who he is”, added the parliamentarian.
“In 2008 the Venezuelan earned 210 dollars a month (average), today that same Venezuelan earns $ 3.95. The problem of the economic system in Venezuela will be a case study in economics schools”, Matta concluded.
