CCN Radio · CCN En La Noticia – Comisionado Prado: Maduro nunca acató recomendaciones de Bachelet en DDHH

The Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights, Humberto Prado, assured that Nicolás Maduro lied in the 46th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council held this Monday and lost the opportunity to explain why he did not comply with the twelve recommendations made by the High Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, in her 2020 report.

“He believes that he is speaking to a rostrum and not to the members of the Human Rights Council. They all have questions about him. He blamed the crisis on unilateral sanctions and factors but did not explain why he ignored Bachelet’s recommendations,” Prado told CCN Radio.

The Commissioner affirmed that Maduro never complied with the recommendations of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, among which were to dissolve the FAES, the freedom of political prisoners in Venezuela and avoid and condemn all acts of repression against the media.

Investigation against violation of human rights and disappearances

Prado reported that the Legitimate Government asked the United Nations Human Rights Council to urge the High Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, to immediately issue an independent and impartial investigation into the attacks on the media and the murders in the La Vega Parish, in western Caracas, which claimed more than twenty victims last January the particulars of which has not been investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office in Venezuela.

The Commissioner reiterated that the correct course is to continue strengthening the investigations and present evidence in the different UN offices that register crimes against humanity in Venezuela.

“We have to go in the right direction to present reports to strengthen the investigations of the different UN offices. There is the work of documenting, of showing reality. With the documentation of the true reality, his lies fall under their own weight,” he stated.

Why did Nicolás Maduro participate in the Human Rights session?

Prado expressed that the recognition of Maduro before the United Nations passes through the Office of the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, since it is an attribution of his position.

“Therefore, we continue working, we continue to send our report to the United Nations authorities and the time will come when they will have to recognize Juan Guaidó,” he explained.
