The First Lady of Venezuela, Fabiana Rosales de Guaidó, warned about the serious situation of human trafficking that Venezuelans are suffering at the border at the hands of criminal groups in complicity with the security agencies of Nicolas Maduro’s regime.
“Venezuelans, victims of a model that subjects them to misery, are vulnerable to criminal groups that dedicate themselves with impunity to human trafficking. Unfortunately, Venezuela is in first place in this scourge,” the First Lady warned in a message posted on Twitter.
Rosales de Guaidó said that “the main victims are women, girls and adolescents, who in the face of hunger and shortages, fall into false promises of work, are then subject to sexual slavery and forced labor, this as a result of the silence and complicity of the regime.
“Venezuelan women are captured in areas bordering Venezuela, many of them exchange sexual services for food as a result of of the complex humanitarian emergency to which they are subjected as a consequence of the dictatorship,” she said.
Furthermore, she described how criminal gangs have been strengthened thanks to the protection offered by the dictatorship.
“The criminal gangs protected by the criminal state are strengthened by the lack of protection for the victims who, driven by hunger, are forced to walk thousands of kilometers to leave the country.
“From our National Assembly, together with the Blanca Nieve Sierra Foundation, the forced disappearance of Venezuelans who leave our coasts in search of better opportunities has been denounced, as in the cases of the boats that left La Vela and Güiria,” she said.
Finally, the wife of President Juan Guaidó said that “it is necessary to create policies that eradicate this type of modern slavery that leaves scars on Venezuelan families. It is imperative to find justice for the victims of human trafficking and to create mechanisms for the prevention and protection of Venezuelans.”
