In order to “simulate normality” and “privilege its front men instead of the Venezuelans”, the dictatorship has forced DirecTV to cease its operations in Venezuela a week ago, denounced the President of the country and of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, on Tuesday in the virtual session of Parliament.
He also expressed his support to the initiatives that have emerged in civil society since this weekend to request the restitution of the service that has a little more than two million subscriptions and from which approximately eleven million Venezuelans benefit.
“The dictatorship shuts down operators like DirecTV with 45% subscription coverage, to privilege their accomplices and front men. I fully support the initiatives that have been deployed to restore the signal, we are working hard so that we have access to truth, to expression, to freedom of speech”.
He recalled that since 2007, with the closure of RCTV, the regime began the attack against the media in Venezuela, closing radio stations, removing international channels from the programming grids of subscription TV providers, denying paper to newspapers, among other actions. Guaidó said that the objective is to silence the voice of Venezuelans who daily protest the collapse of services in the country, the consequences of the Complex Humanitarian Crisis, etc.
“The intention of the dictatorship is to simulate normality and control through communicational hegemony, censorship and self-censorship so that facts like those of yesterday (Monday, May 25th) where there were 26 protests in 19 states of the country, are not known. In Mercado las Pulgas, in Maracaibo, they protested despite the pandemic, also in Miranda because of the lack of water, electricity, and public transportation. In each of the states they are demanding and that is what the dictatorship wants to drown.”
During the virtual session of the National Assembly, the President expressed his support for the party Voluntad Popular, in connection with the regime’s new onslaught aimed at declaring them a “terrorist organization.”
“All our support not only to Voluntad Popular, but also to those who have been persecuted, nurses, doctors, producers, companies. The question is: Who has links with terrorism today in Venezuela? Where was Santrich, a dissident of the FARC, hidden? Who has links with the ELN? They want to sow terror in Venezuelans, they want to create a mirror effect, they (the regime) are the ones with links to terrorism.”
The interim president said that this Monday in the center of Caracas “they raised a flag of countries with links to international terrorism. That’s why he asked the National Armed Forces (FAN) what they say about that, or if “they are going to continue with the cynicism that has characterized them in recent months?”
“They are not going to stop the advance of the Venezuelans, of those of us who want freedom and democracy in Venezuela.”
As for the “Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants in the Context of COVID-19,” which is taking place this Tuesday, May 26th, he was thankful for this initiative.
“We celebrate this Conference of Donors. Thanks to the European Union, to the Presidents of the neighboring countries who have received our Venezuelan brothers and who are participating in the Conference. This comes to alleviate the situation that Venezuelan migrants are going through at the height of the pandemic. We continue to fight so that they return, they are not ‘biological weapons’, but Venezuelans who come looking for their families again”.
He clarified that the money collected will be handled by the countries where Venezuelan migrants are found.
Finally, Guaidó ratified the progress made by the government in charge of the investigations on the infiltration of the dictatorship into the so-called “Operation Gideon” which it allegedly infiltrated and where “Venezuelan soldiers were massacred.”
“Be very aware of what has come out of the infiltration by the dictatorship and the propaganda that they wanted to do with that event (in reference to “Operation Gideon”), it was already announced a few days ago who would have financed that operation: a front man for the dictatorship, we even know the flight itineraries, the planes with which the dictatorship had made transfers to try to infiltrate. We are going to continue advancing in the indictment and they are going to have to pay for having massacred Venezuelan soldiers.
