Prado applauded that UN experts urge the regime to stop attacks against NGOs and journalists in Venezuela

The Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights and Attention to Victims, Humberto Prado, celebrated that human rights experts from the United Nations (UN) urge Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship to put an end to the continuous and growing attacks and intimidations gainst Human Rights Defense Organizations and Journalists in Venezuela.

Experts noted that Maduro’s regime has adopted new rules in recent months that intensify pressure against NGOs and restrict their access to international funding, including the resources needed to address the humanitarian crisis.

“The arrests and criminal charges are part of a pattern of growing criminalization against civil society organizations in Venezuela which already operate within a restrictive legislative framework,” Prado said in his official Twitter account.

The Commissioner also celebrated the release of the five human rights defenders and members of the NGO Azul Positivo, who had been detained in Zulia State on January 12th and released on February 10th, but the charges against them have not been withdrawn.

Prado said that the experts urged the regime to review these new regulations and to prioritize the attention of said crisis with a human rights-based approach.
