The Frente Amplio Profesional, Confepuv and Imprenfermería spoke out to tell Nicolás Maduro’s regime, if it does not know or forgot, that in 1948 the first World Health Assembly was held in which it was approved to celebrate World Health Day. Health day, which has happened every April 7th since 1950. “The moment is appropriate to remember that its objective is to provide a global opportunity to focus attention on important public health issues that affect the international community and that includes Venezuela,” they pointed out.
“We must join the great campaign to build a more just and healthy world, but unfortunately here in our great nation we observe how the living conditions of the population are increasingly precarious and even more so since the arrival of the pandemic caused by the Chinese virus, because there is no possibility to access healthcare services in intensive care units, for example,” said the MSc. Nereida Villamizar from the Confederation of University Professionals of Venezuela (Confepuv).
“The logical thing is that the human being fulfills the processes of being born, growing, multiplying and dying in a natural way. Nothing should alter that sequence of life, but it does happen. In Venezuela for example, the majority have no hope of living a natural process, because of a regime that plunged us into a deep complex humanitarian crisis due to corruption and its wrong policies. This has been the case for more than 20 years, a time in which it has not given value to the lives of citizens and far from reconsidering it accentuates the destruction of the country,” she added.
IMMUNIZATION IS URGENT
“We are not living, we are surviving. In the midst of the pandemic, Maduro has led us to a situation of ‘each a man for himself’ due to lack of vaccines. This weekend they announced that they paid an advance to purchase vaccines, but it has not brought us peace of mind, because we know that their range of priorities for vaccination is different from that of the whole world. He has shown that the officials and collaborators of his regime will come first, including cooperating Cubans, before healthcare personnel and people at high risk due to pathologies that make them more vulnerable,” said Villamizar.
“But it’s not just the pandemic that got out of hand and is out of control. Malnutrition is gaining more ground, because Venezuelans earn hunger wages that prevent them from buying food in the face of hyperinflation that amazes the world with its extremely high levels. Furthermore, the country’s healthcare personnel are experiencing a terrible situation, because they also work exposed to the contagion of SARS-CoV-2 because they lack of biosafety equipment. Hence, the figures of our deceased that we report every week are terrifying,” she informed.
“The concept of health encompasses well-being and that does not exist in Venezuela. The psyche of citizens is battered, because apart from the fact that the money is not enough for medicine or food, they have to live with deficiencies in all public services, without a quality education for their children, without decent job opportunities, without justice and being prey to crime,” she said.
“Faced with this terrible scenario due to a failed and destroyed State, the healthcare workers united in the FAP-Salud, Confepuv and Inprenfermería, demand that the regime comply with the vaccines with the urgency the case merits through a transparent and non-discriminatory immunization plan under the parameters set by the WHO,” she remarked.
“They are not going to silence us. We will continue to demand our constitutional right so that all Venezuelans regardless of race, political ideology, sex, religion, are vaccinated and give priority to the healthcare sector, since we are the ones who are in the fight against the virus totally unprotected due to lack of adequate protection without biosafety measures and equipment. We already ask the countries of the world to turn and watch Venezuela so that they get to know exactly what is happening here and help us,” requested Nereida Villamizar.
NEW RECORD OF DEATHS IN THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR FROM COVID-19
In the Confepuv report, Inprenfermería and FAS-Salud, on the other hand, reported 41 new deaths of healthcare personnel in the country as a result of complications derived from COVID-19, which translates into a new record of deaths in a week, since the beginning of the pandemic in Venezuela, on March 13th, 2020.
